our lives,” he said. “Everything about this is a miracle and nobody can believe it. But we can believe it, because it was foretold.”

Not that there hadn’t been nightmarish aspects to the case, he said. He’d lost weeks of work on the trial, putting a strain on the family’s finances. The DEA had confiscated his car and never re- turned it, even as he continued to make payments on it. But he was adamant that he’d never for a moment doubted that the work he’d done for RX Limited was not only legal, but the future of medi- cine. It was painful, he said, to watch it be twisted by the govern- ment into a crime. “I thought, what am I doing here?” he said. “I’m a churchgoing family guy, never been in trouble, never been on drugs, always paid my taxes. Suddenly you are the next drug lord, and it’s all in the mind of one prosecutor who thinks this is not a valid model. Now every single prescription became a drug deal, every cent of money became money laundering, everything that was sent through FedEx became mail fraud.”

The prosecutors had offered him a deal at one point, he said: Plead guilty and get ten years in prison. “And they were angry when I didn’t take it! Those that didn’t have belief in the system, or didn’t have the means, or the courage, they took deals. Those that stood and fought it, came out on top. I’m so thankful that I thought of sending a thank-you card to the prosecutor. Really, I’m not telling you this for the story. I’m telling you this because I frankly thought about it. Because we were stronger as a family, we were stronger in our faith than ever before. We were happier, be- cause happiness is internal.”
