and over again, including Tandanayi, a South African named Edgar Van Tonder, and a Zimbabwean named Robert McGowan.

28 dozens of Le Roux-connected companies: For all of these companies, I have obtained corporate filings linking them to Le Roux and his designees.

28 a defunct software company called SW Professionals: An archived copy of the site is available at web.archive.org/web/*/swprofessionals.com.

28 from the prying eyes of law enforcement: "If you are worried that someone might have access to your documents, emails, sales projections, contracts, tax returns or receipts, romantic letters, or any other private files, then this prod- uct is for you," Le Roux had written at the top.

28 old website for E4M: To track the registrations on both active and abandoned domains, I used a paid service called DomainTools, which provides full histo- ries of any given website, including who owned it when throughout its history.

28 whistleblower Edward Snowden: Runa A. Sandvik, "That One Time I Threw a CryptoParty with Edward Snowden," Forbes, May 27, 2014.

29 terrorist group ISIS: Rukmini Callimachi, "How ISIS Built the Machinery of Terror Under Europe's Gaze," The New York Times, March 29, 2016.

29 indicted eleven RX Limited employees: USA v. Berkman, Document 5, No- vember 13, 2013.

29 declined to talk: "We respectfully decline interview as the case is pending trial," a spokesperson responded to me by email.

CHAPTER 4

32 one childhood friend: When I traveled to Israel in 2016 to report on RX Lim- ited and Oz, several friends, including this one, agreed to speak to me but were frightened for their safety if their names were somehow connected to Le Roux.

32 Oz had just graduated: Unless otherwise noted, details from Oz's biography and experiences derive from interviews with Oz conducted in Minneapolis and by phone between 2015 and 2017.

33 online forums like Craigslist: RX Limited would often post in the "medical/ health" section of the sites' job listings. See, for example, USA v. Berkman, Document 952-12, April 9, 2013.

33 Berkman's primary responsibility: Interviews with Moran Oz. I was unable to locate anyone-including former colleagues and members of his immediate family-who would admit to having seen or heard from Alon Berkman since his indictment became public in 2014. I heard rumors that he had relocated to Thailand or India, while others claimed he was simply waiting out the U.S. charges in hiding in Israel. Whatever the case, I was unable to interview him, and accounts of his role derive from interviews with Oz and others who worked closely with him, along with thousands of pages of evidence in his case, including dozens of emails to and from him.

33 New hires were supplied: In addition to Moran Oz, I interviewed a dozen other call center employees, both low-level customer service representatives and call center managers, to understand how the business worked.
